Prevention & Awareness

Preventing harm before it happens

Responding to crises is essential, but preventing them is even more powerful. Lasting change begins when families, schools and communities have the knowledge, confidence and support to protect girls before harm occurs.

Through community workshops, school sessions and outreach, we work alongside parents, teachers, young people, local leaders and government agencies to challenge harmful practices, promote children’s rights and ensure every girl knows where to turn for help.

Every conversation, workshop and community visit helps build a future where girls are safer, more confident and able to make their own choices.

Working Alongside Communities

Community engagement sits at the heart of our EmpowerHER programme.

Our outreach team spends most of its time in villages, schools and communities, building trusted relationships with families, identifying girls at risk and providing practical support before situations become emergencies. They also provide counselling and practical support to girls and families, helping them navigate difficult situations and access the support they need.

By listening to communities and working together to find solutions, we’re helping to change attitudes towards child marriage, gender-based violence and girls’ education—creating lasting change that reaches far beyond the individual girls we support.

Every year, more than 1,500 parents, teachers, young people and community leaders take part in our awareness sessions, helping to build a stronger understanding of children’s rights, child marriage, domestic violence and the importance of education.

Our Approach

Community Education

Interactive workshops in schools and communities covering child marriage, domestic violence, children’s rights, education, safeguarding and reproductive health.

Outreach & Early Support

Building trusted relationships with families, identifying girls at risk and providing advice, counselling and referrals before problems escalate.

Local Partnerships

Partnering with schools, Community Female Health Volunteers, local authorities and social workers to strengthen protection for girls across Madhesh Pradesh.

When Communities Lead Change

Lasting change happens when communities become the driving force behind it.

We’re already seeing encouraging changes. Parents are increasingly choosing education over early marriage. Harmful practices that were once rarely questioned are now being openly discussed. Families are seeking support earlier, girls are becoming more aware of their rights and local leaders are playing a greater role in protecting vulnerable children.

By working alongside communities, we’re helping create an environment where every girl has the opportunity to grow up safe, continue her education and shape her own future.
