In Madhesh Pradesh, 1 in 10 brick factory workers is a child. For many children that we work with, education has never been an option. Children can’t simply walk out of a brick factory and into a classroom.
Many have never attended school. Others have missed years of education or struggle with reading, writing and numeracy after spending their childhood working.
Our education programme is designed to help children rebuild their confidence, catch up on learning and return to school successfully. We don’t just enrol children—we support them every step of the way to help them stay there.

Building the Foundations
Rather than placing children directly into school, we help them bridge the gap between years spent working and the classroom, giving them the best possible chance of succeeding in education.
During their first 3 months in the programme, children attend intensive transition classes that help them build the skills and confidence needed to enter formal education. Once they’re ready, we support them to enrol in local schools and continue providing daily tuition to ensure they can keep up with their learning.
Our goal isn’t simply getting children into school—it’s helping them complete their education.
So far, 463 children have begun this journey, with many more expected to join the programme in the coming months.
Our Approach
Transition Classes
Providing intensive literacy and numeracy classes that prepare children for formal education.
School Enrolment
Working alongside schools and families to help children return to the classroom.
Ongoing Tuition
Providing daily after-school support so children continue progressing and completing their education.
Removing Barriers
Helping children access school uniforms, learning materials, birth certificates and other essentials that make education possible.
Learning Beyond the Curriculum
Education is about far more than passing exams.
Our children also take part in sport, creative arts, life skills and confidence-building activities that help them discover new interests and enjoy learning.
Many of the children entering our programme have never experienced a positive classroom environment before. We want school to become somewhere they feel safe, supported and excited to attend every day.
Working With Schools
Strong partnerships with local schools are central to the programme.
Teachers, parents and our team work closely together to monitor attendance, identify challenges early and provide additional support whenever it’s needed.
By working together, we’re helping children not only return to school, but remain there.
Every Child Learns Differently
Every child joins the programme with different experiences. Some of our children have never held a pencil. Others have spent years out of school. Some needed extra confidence before stepping into a classroom for the first time.
Our education team adapts learning to every child’s starting point, ensuring no one is left behind.
Building Futures Through Education
Watching children who once worked in brick factories succeed in education is one of the greatest rewards of our work. Attendance at our classes is around 90%—a remarkable achievement made possible thanks to our dedicated teachers, determined children and families who increasingly recognise the value of education. Our teachers receive regular Montessori and classroom management training to keep lessons engaging, interactive and inspiring.
Older children receive support with preparation for the final exams. Several of our students have already completed school and gone on to college and university—the first young people from their villages to do so. One young woman, now studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Education, recently became a teacher at her local school. For her, and for the next generation of children she will teach and inspire, the impact reaches far beyond the classroom.
Education doesn’t simply replace child labour—it gives children the freedom to choose their own future.
